ABSTRACT
The response of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cv. Arka Komal to different types (paddy straw, rice husk and saw dust) and quantities (5, 7.5 and 10 t ha-1) of mulches along with no mulch condition was studied at Institute of Agriculture, Visva-Bharati, Sriniketan, West Bengal during rabi season of 2012-13. The highest pod yield per plant (51.18 g), pod yield per hectare (11.75 t ha-1), water use (153.86 mm) and water use efficiency (76.36 kg ha-1 mm-1) were observed with paddy straw mulch @ 10 t ha-1. Pod yield ha-1 exhibited significant negative linear relationship (-0.756) with water use (WU) and significant positive linear relationship (0.993) with water use efficiency (WUE).
