ABSTRACT
An experiment was carried out at the HRS, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology during the year 2013-14 which comprised of 10 treatments replicated 3 times in a RCB Design. In the treatment recommended fertilizer dose of 8:4:8 g NPK/plant was taken as control (T1); the farmer's practice of growth regulator application (planofix @ 1ml/4.5l of water) along with recommended dose of fertilizer was taken as a treatment (T2). The other treatments comprised of different combination of growth regulators i.e. NAA and GA. NAA was taken @50ppm and 100 ppm along with recommended dose of fertilizers( T3& T4); GA was taken @25 ppm and 50 ppm along with recommended dose of fertilizers(T5& T6). The second group comprised of enhanced dose of fertilizers i.e. 10:5:10 g NPK/plant along with above concentration of NAA and GA3 (T7, T8, T9 & T10).The treatment, T8 with 10:5:10g NPK/plant along with application of 50 ml solution of 100 ppm NAA poured into the heart of the plant gave superior performance for most of the characters studied i.e. early flowering, No. of leaves, fruit girth, fruit weight, chlorophyll content both at flowering and harvest, pulp: peel ratio along with highest yield/ha. The TSS was found to be highest in control and reduction in the TSS value was observed with application of growth regulators. NAA application at 100 ppm recorded lowest TSS as compared to 50 ppm NAA and gibberellic acid treatments. The overall performance of T8 was the best.
