ABSTRACT
Harvesting of groundnut is very tedious, time consuming and labour intensive. Nowadays, groundnut harvesting is carried out by using manual methods namely; digging by hand, manual uprooting, and bullock-drawn groundnut digger. In case of manual harvesting, considerable amount of groundnut pods are lost due to incomplete uprooting of the crop because of insufficient soil moisture or post maturity of crop. Keeping this in view, A study was undertaken to develop a self propelled groundnut digger to analyze the effect of the operational parameters viz., moisture contents (10, 12.5 and 15 per cent), forward speeds (1.5, 2 and 2.5 km h-1) and rake angles (10, 15 and 20°) on the performance of digger for harvesting groundnut. The maximum digging efficiency of 96.95 % was recorded with lower per cent pod loss of 0.96 % at 15 degree rake angle, 2 km h-1 forward speed and 15 per cent soil moisture content.
