ABSTRACT
An experiment was conducted on eight year old trees of plum cv. Santa Rosa on seedling root stock of uniform size and vigour planted at a distance of 3x3 m receiving uniform cultural practices were selected for the experimentation. The plants were mulched in the month of March, 2012 with different types of mulching materials viz., transparent polyethylene, black polyethylene, pine needles, mowed grass, saw dust and chinar leaves besides control. The maximum annual shoot extension growth (62.50 cm), leaf area (44.30 cm2), fruit length (4.66 cm), fruit diameter (4.55cm), fruit firmness (2.48 kg cm-2), fruit weight (51.28 g), and yield (7.15 kg tree-1) were recorded in plants under black polyethylene mulch. Highest return bloom density (29.50%) was recorded from the trees under transparent polyethylene mulch treatments. Maximum fruit set and fruit retention were recorded from the trees under pine needles having 57.85 and 25.92 per cent respectively.
