ABSTRACT
A three years study was conducted during the year 2013 - 2016 to study the effect of organic manure application with different combinations of biofertilizers on ginger (Zingiber officinale Rocs.) cv. Nadia with reference to growth, rhizome yield and yield attributes in rainfed up lands of Visakhapatnam. The compost along with Azospirillum + VAM recorded the maximum values for plant height (89.24 cm), number of tillers (8.28), number of leaves(18.26), leaf area(412.24M2), leaf area index (0.406), fresh weight of haulm (211.98g) and dry weight of haulm(19.62g) where minimum values (56.52 cm, 4.81,15.42,268.62 m2, 0.258,148.43g and 13.42g) were observed with control. The treatment compost + azospirillum+ VAM recorded more number of mother rhizomes per plant (1.72), more number of primary rhizomes per plant (5.62), secondary rhizomes per plant (24.54), followed by compost + azospirillum + PSB (1.56, 5.42, 22.62). Highest weight of fresh rhizomes per plant 186.37 g and fresh rhizome yield 15.91 t ha-1 was recorded with compost + azospirillum + VAM, followed by compost + azospirallam + PSB 175.28 g, 14.62 t ha-1 and lowest values 128.26 g, 10.62 t ha-1 were recorded with control respectively. Maximum values for essential oil (1.28%) and oleoresin (5.76%) was found with compost with azospirillum + VAM and minimum values (1.0%, 4.27%) were found with control. The study revealed that, application biofertilizers along with organic manure shown better results.
