ABSTRACT
The field experiment was laid out in RBD with three replications. Treatment receiving organic sources of nitrogen significantly influenced the height of plant, leaf area index (LAI), during both the years of experimentation. T14 was found to be superior to other treatments and control, but it was statistically at par with T12 and T8. The yield (seed & stem) of grain amaranth was significantly influenced by the different treatments during both the years. A highest pooled seed yield of 16.9 q.ha-1 was recorded under T14 treatment followed by 15.5 q.ha-1 and 14.3 q.ha-1 at T12 and T8 respectively. In the pooled data, maximum of 28.9 q.ha-1 of stem was produced at T14 and it was statistically at par with T12 and T8. Harvest index was not significantly influenced in 2012, but only in 2013. Lowest harvest index was recorded at T1. Substantial increase in yield was observed at the treatments consisting of recommended dose of N, P2O5 & K2O compared to sole application of organics. Among the treatment combinations, the maximum higher net return accrued to T8 (Poultry manure @ 5 t ha-1) and followed by accrued to T10 (RDF +FYM @ 4 t ha-1) during both the year respectively. Net monetary return with higher benefit : cost ratio at T2, T10 and T8 showed a high paying potential of grain amaranth. So, in consideration with quality and economics of grain amaranth, it was concluded that farmers of North Bengal can adopt grain amaranth in high or medium high land situation with the application of poultry manure instead of chemical fertilizer.
