ABSTRACT
Field experiment was conducted during rabi 2010-11 at Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) on a sandy clay loam soil to study the effect of organic sources of nutrients on growth, yield and soil quality under late sown chickpea [Cicer arietinum (L.)] and field pea [Pisum sativum (L.)]. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design included ten treatments comprising five treatments for each crops (field pea and chickpea) viz., control, farm yard manure at 5 t ha-1, neem cake at 0.4 t ha-1, vermicompost at 2 t ha-1 and Trichoderma seed treatment. Highest growth parameters like plant height, branches plant-1, nodules plant-1, dry weight plant-1, nodule dry weight plant-1 and root dry weight plant-1 were significantly recorded under vermicompost (2 t ha-1) than FYM (5 t ha-1), neem cake (0.4 t ha-1), Trichoderma seed treatment and control. Maximum pods plant-1, seeds pod-1, 100-seed weight, grain & straw yield and harvest index was recorded under vermicompost (2 t ha-1) followed by FYM (5 t ha-1), neem cake (0.4 t ha-1), Trichoderma seed treatment and control. Significant change in soil properties like organic carbon, available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium was increased from initial stage and over control treatments. Vermicompost was left highest organic carbon (0.62%), available N (204.84 kg ha-1), P (19.33 kg ha-1) and K (202.5 kg ha-1) with neem cake.
