ABSTRACT
A study to assess the effect of packaging and storage temperature on the shelf-life of fresh okra pods cv. VNR Green was carried out during 2010-2011 at the Post-Harvest Technology Lab., ASPEE College of Horticulture and Forestry, NAU, Navsari. The experiment comprised of five packaging materials viz., rigid plastic crates, LDPE bag of 25 micron thickness, 50 micron thickness, 75 micron thickness and 100 micron thickness and two storage temperatures i.e., 12oC and 16oC. Significant differences were observed among biochemical parameters and spoilage due to various treatments. Packing okra pods in LDPE bags of 50 micron thickness and holding them at a temperature of 12oC proved to be the best treatment combination for it recorded the highest chlorophyll and carotenoid content, ascorbic acid content and titrable acidity content with the lowest reducing sugar and disease incidence.
