ABSTRACT
This work aimed to evaluate the post-harvest shelf-life of custard apple (Annona squamosa L.) fruits submitted to different packaging under refrigerated storage. Fruits were individually packed in polypropylene bag, and tested during five periods of storage (0, 4, 8 and 12 days) at 13ºC±1. A laboratory experimental study was conducted on effect of post-harvest Chemical Changes in Custard apple fruits Hybrid Atemoya x Balanagar packed in polypropylene bags to improve shelf-life of fruit. Department of Horticulture, Fruit Research Station Sangareddy district and framed in Complete Randomized design (CRD). Custard apple fruits were harvested at physiological stage of maturity. Fruits were graded, washed and dried under fan. titratable acidity (TA), brix acid ratio, and reducing sugars, were recorded every 4 days over the storage period. Custard apple fruits stored at 13ºC±1 and packed in polypropylene bag had reduced mass loss. The modified atmosphere packaging also resulted in decreased loss of firmness, providing about a 12 day post-harvest life. Soluble solids and total titrable acidity concentrations did not increase significantly during storage. All fruits presented reduction of water activity (WA) during the storage period. The use of packaging films significantly reduced weight loss, preserved firmness and color of fruit. The modified atmosphere allowed for a shelf-life of 12 days at 13ºC±1.
