ABSTRACT
A study was conducted during 2010-11 to find out the effect of solid matrix priming of seed on emergence, growth and yield of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.). The seeds of cucumber cv. K-75 were solid matrix primed using 15 different media viz., Cocopeat, Perlite, Vermiculite, Sphagnum moss, Saw dust, Corn cobs, Wheat bran, Bituminous soft coal, Farm Yard Manure (FYM), Vermicompost, Sand, Forest soil, Azotobacter, Trichoderma viride and Water. Solid matrix priming of seed with Cocopeat followed by FYM and Vermicompost gave best results for most of the horticultural traits while for most of yield and yield contributing characters Cocopeat followed by FYM and Perlite exhibited best results. Hence it is concluded that Cocopeat may be used as solid matrix seed priming media for getting improved emergence, growth and yield in cucumber.
