A.B. MASTIHOLI and R.P. PATIL. 2014. Effect of spacing and time of harvest on growth attributes of medicinal coleus (Coleus forskholii  Briq.). Green Farming Vol. 5 (1) : 74-77  (January-February, 2014)

ABSTRACT
A field trial to study the effect of spacing and time of harvest on growth attributes of medicinal coleus was conducted at KRC College of Horticulture, Arabhavi, Karnataka during 2004 and 2005. Plant height was significantly higher at closer spacing of 60 cm x 20 cm (61.4 cm) and 45 cm x 30 cm (59.7 cm) than wider spacing. However, number of branches and leaves were recorded significantly higher at wider spacing levels (60 cm x 30 cm and 75 cm x 20 cm) than those recorded at closer spacing levels (45 cm x 30 cm and 60 cm x 20 cm). Similarly, plant spread on either directions (East-West and North-South) was higher at wider spacing levels than closer spacing levels. The leaf area index (LAI) (2.88, 3.19, 3.30 and 3.50) and leaf area duration (LAD) (82.7, 90.4, 93.8 and 99.9 days) increased with decrease in the spacing ( 60 cm x 30 cm, 75 cm x 20 cm, 45 cm x 30 cm and 60 cm x 20 cm, respectively). Significantly higher plant height and plant spread were recorded at 160 and 180 DAP. However, number of branches (38.4) and number of leaves (575) per pant were significantly higher at 180 DAP. Significantly higher LAI (4974 and 4792, respectively) and LAD (92.8 and 93.3 days, respectively) were recorded at 140 and 180 DAP.
