ABSTRACT
A field experiment was conducted during rabi-summer season of 2010-11 at the Main Paddy Research Centre (N.A.R.P.) under Soil and Water Management Research Unit, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari. The objectives were to mitigate the effect of low temperature in rice seedling grown in rabi season by seed treatment and seedling spray of growth substances like gibbrellic acid, thiourea, salicylic acid and KNO3. The results revealed that the combination of seed treatment and seedling spray with thiourea and salicylic acid significantly improved morpho-physiological parameters like germination percentage, number of leaves per seedling, root length, shoot length and seedling vighour index per plant compared to other treatments in nursery stage. The mean increase in grain yield over absolute control was 28.65 % in seed treatment and seedling spray with thiourea @ 1000 mg/l.
