S.M. TALEY. 2010. Effect of water conservation ditches on the establishment of agro-horticulture system under rainfed agro-ecosystem in Vidarbha region. Green Farming Vol. 1 (2) : 209-211 ; March-April, 2010 (New Series)

ABSTRACT
In water conservation ditches water does not back up upstream of the ditch, there is no water stagnation, water entering the cracks on the sides of the ditches causes no breaching, helps to enhanced, the moisture levels at down stream side which has indicated the favourable effect on the growth of the custard apple in terms of height and collar diameter. Over the period of five years the height and collar diameter the custard apple enhanced by 43.36 and 105.34 per cent respectively up to 25 m distance (T2) from WCD followed by 37.56 and 69.86 per cent increase up to 50 m (T3), 28.73 and 55.73 per cent increase up to 75 m (T4) and minimum 11.45 and 29.36 per cent up to 100 m (T5) away from WCD. The yield of intercrop (sesame) was found enhanced by 37.58 to 7.47 per cent up to 100 m away from WCD only because of the moisture level enhanced by 83.64 to 34.19 per cent and 30.88 to 15 per cent at 15 and 60 cm depth respectively. Therefore WCD's was found feasible and beneficial in deep black soils for the establishment of dry land agro-horticultural system.
Key words :
