ABSTRACT
The present investigation was undertaken to study on storage of cut flowers viz., Gerbera and Rose using different wrapping materials and different Storage conditions of cut flowers. For the experimental trials, freshly harvested cut flowers like rose (16 cm) and gerbera (25 cm) of stem length and at same maturity stage level cut flowers were selected and wrapped in different wrapping material such as butter paper, kraft paper and polythene paper individually. The wrapped flowers were then placed in distilled water with 2 cm base stem dipped into the water and stored at room temperature storage condition (35°C) and Refrigerated storage condition (5°C).
The results concluded that the refrigerated storage of red rose with kraft paper and white rose with kraft paper has given more vase life up to 7 days as compare to room temperature storage condition red rose with kraft paper and white rose with kraft paper has more vase life up to 3 days and the rose cut flowers without any wrapping materials has vase life only 1-2 days.
The refrigerated storage of yellow gerbera with butter paper and white gerbera with polythene paper has given more vase life up to 7 days as compare to room temperature storage condition of yellow gerbera with butter paper has vase life up to 3 days and white gerbera with kraft paper has vase life up to 5 days. Gerbera cut flowers without any wrapping materials have vase life up to 2-3 days.
