ABSTRACT
Studies were undertaken at the Department of Seed Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore in black gram (Vigna mungo (L.) cv. APK1 to evaluate the efficacy of organic seed invigouration on field productivity. The seeds were soaked in neem, moringa, prosopis and arappu leaf extracts at one and two per cent concentrations upto 4 hr and a field trial was laid along with control. Field experiments resulted that for better morphological characters, yield components, shelling percentage and seed yield, the seeds could be invigourated with 2 per cent neem leaf extract or 2 per cent moringa leaf extract for 4 hr. The yield attributing characters viz., number of pods, number of seeds per pod, seed yield of plant and seed yield per hectare were also maximum in 2% neem leaf extract. The yield increase was 6.5% higher than control.
