ABSTRACT
Fly ash of Deepnagar thermal power plant located in Bhusawal (MS) has been used for soil agricultural nourishment. Fly ash is characterized for its agro- properties. In a bench-scale study, lady's finger and cotton (Gossypium hirsutum, Barbadense) plants are grown using fly ash in various proportions. Optimum proportion of fly ash for plant growth is determined. Edibility of agro-products thus obtained is also examined. It is observed that fly ash proportion around 10 to 15% by weight of black cotton soil is optimum for these crops; while fly ash proportion even higher can be used without disturbing the natural fertility environment of soil. Thus, use of fly ash for soil nourishment for above-mentioned crops is a viable method of fly ash disposal, added with the benefit of better crop yield.
