S. SIKDER and S. BASFORE. 2015. Estimation of combining ability and gene action in a half-diallel cross of tomato. Green Farming Vol. 6 (5) : 927-930 ; September-October, 2015

ABSTRACT
A study was conducted on a 6x6 half-diallel set of tomato excluding reciprocals to ascertain the relative performance regarding combining ability effects for yield and fruit quality at Central Farm ,BCKV, Mohanpur Nadia. Result revealed that there was highly significant difference among the genotypes for different traits and there was joint role of additive and non-additive effect for the inheritance of those traits. Among the parents, Alisa Craig and BCT 59 were considered as best combiner for yield component (viz., fruit/plant and fruit weight) and BCT 115 was best for fruit quality parameters viz., Lycopene (6.04mg/100g), ?-carotene (1.67mg/100g), Ascorbic acid (36.71mg/100g) and Total sugar (4.01%). Cross combination Alisa Craig x Patharkutchi was best for the number of fruit per plant (i.e., 53.35) and BCT 59 X BCT 115 was considered combination for rest of the traits viz., fruit weight (126.74g), Lycopene (6.09mg/100g), ?-carotene (1.67mg/100g), Total sugar (4.32%).
