ABSTRACT
Studies on evaluation and screening of sesamum varieties against sesamum phyllody during 2011-12 and 2012-13 and its Incidence and severity in central dry zone of Karnataka was carried out during 2010-11and 2011-12 at Agric. Res. Station, Konehally, Tiptur Taluk, Tumkur Dist.Among seven varieties (E-8, DS-1, GT-1, TMV-3, DS-9 Navile-1 and local variety) evaluated GT-1 and DS-9 accounted minimum (10.67%) incidence followed by DS-1(11,34%) and E-8 (14.00%).The Navile-1 recorded 16.00% as against 29.34 percent in local variety. The percent conversion of pods in to leaf like structures was minimum in DS-1(42.62%) followed by GT-1 and TMV-3 which accounted 53.59 and 58.53%.respectively. Maximum (69.43%) conversion of pods in to leaf like structures was accounted by local variety. Plant to plant % conversion of pods into leaf like structures ranged from 13.64 to 100 percent during 2011-12. Similar results were obtained during 2012-13. Among seven varieties GT-1 accounted minimum (9.34%) incidence followed by DS-9 and DS-1which accounted 10.64 and 11.34 % respectively as against 30.67% in local variety. The percent conversion of pods in to leaf like structures was minimum in GT-1 (30.85%) followed DS-9 and TMV-3 which accounted 35.49 and 36.74% respectively. Maximum (62.75%) conversion of pods in to leaf like structures was accounted by local variety. Plant to plant % conversion of pods into leaf like structures ranged from 9.09 to 100 percent. The pooled data of two years also revealed that GT-1 accounted minimum (10.68%) incidence with maximum (395.25 kg/ha.) yield followed by DS-9 and DS-1 which accounted 10.68 and 11.34 % disease incidence with an yield of 381.15 and 369.65 kg/ha respectively. The pooled survey results revealed that maximum per cent incidence of phyllody was recorded in Tiptur taluk (55.66%) followed by Arsikere taluk (47.77%) with 65.26 and 56.35 per cent conversion of pods into leaf like structures in Tiptur and Arsikere taluks respectively.
