ABSTRACT
An experiment was conducted to evaluate different varieties and hybrids of capsicum for relation to growth, yield and yield attributes under 50 % shade net. The hybrid, Indra and the variety, Royal Wonder recorded maximum plant height (130.17 cm and 126.63 cm respectively) at 120 DAT. Number of leaves plant-1 was more in the hybrid, Indra (121.00) followed by the variety, Arka Basant (117.48). Higher number of primary and secondary branches plant-1 was recorded in the hybrid, Indra (2.85 and 5.93) and the variety, Royal Wonder (2.55 and 5.34) at 30 and 60 DAT, respectively. Days taken for flower initiation and first fruit picking were significantly less in the hybrid, Indra (36.28 and 76.14) and in the variety, Royal Wonder (36.87 and 78.29) which is an indication of earliness and early maturity. While, days to 50% flowering was less in the variety, Royal Wonder (40.66) which was closely followed by the hybrid, Indra (41.00). The hybrid, Indra and the variety, Royal Wonder produced maximum number of flowers plant-1 (39.28 and 35.57, respectively). Number of fruits plant-1 was observed high in the hybrids, Indra (17.00) and NS-280 (16.39). The average fruit weight (124.70 g) was maximum in the hybrid, Indra followed by the hybrid, NS-280 (115.31 g). The hybrid, Indra recorded the maximum yield of 2.12 kg plant-1 followed by the hybrid, NS-280 (1.89 kg plant-1).
