ABSTRACT
A field experiment was conducted with local strains of Azopsirillum (Azo-15) and phosphobacteria (PSB-S-2) in order to improve the growth and yield of chilli in black cotton soil. These isolates performed better over other isolates with respect to stimulation of beneficial micro flora in rhizosphere soil, nutrient uptake in plants and growth and yield parameters of chilli. However, combined inoculation of Azo-15 and PSB-S-2 significantly increased population of these rhizosphere micro flora viz., Bacteria, Fungi, Actinomycetes, Azotobacter, Azospirillum and PSB as compared to rest of the treatment combinations and individual inoculation with either Azo-15 or reference strain of Azospirillum or PSB-S-2 or reference strain of PSB and un-inoculated control. The nutrient uptake (N and P) was significantly high and it increased with increase in the age of the host due to combined inoculation of Azo-15 and PSB-S-2 as compared to rest of treatment combinations and individual inoculation with either Azo-15 or reference strain of Azospirillum or PSB-S-2 or reference strain of PSB and un-inoculated control. The plant growth parameters viz., plant height, number of branches per plant, shoot dry weight, root dry weight and green chilli yield was founded to significantly high and these parameters improved with increase in the age of the host plant due to combined inoculation Azo-15 and PSB-S-2 as compared to rest of treatment combinations and individual inoculation with either Azo-15 or reference strain of Azospirillum or PSB-S-2 or reference strain of PSB and un-inoculated control.
