ABSTRACT
Spodoptera litura is the dominant pest of most of the important crops, due to its polyphagous nature. It has developed resistance to most commonly used insecticides. Several plants extracts offer better insecticidal activity as well as better potential as a synergist with insecticides. The new insecticides indoxacarb and spinosad are broad spectrum insecticides but are highly expensive. Hence the combination of botanical extracts with these new insecticides is essential to study. So that it leads to delay resistance development in S. litura. The present investigation was undertaken to determine the lethal concentrations of botanicals. It is clear from present study that custard apple seed extract proved best botanical for control of S. litura over other botanicals used with LC50 value of 8.03%, after 72 hrs of treatment. Custard apple seed extract and pongamia oil could interfere with the enzyme metabolism of the insect and showed better results. Whereas Ipomoea carnea acetonic leaf extract was the least effective synergistic compound against S. litura.
