ABSTRACT
A field experiment was conducted at Department of Plant Breeding and Genetic, J.N.K.V.V., Jabalpur during 2004-05 to study magnitude of standard heterosis in nineteen Indica rice hybrids over commercial cultivars refered to as “Standard heterosis” is of economic significance and practical utility. The experimental material comprised of a set of nineteen Indian rice (Oryza sativa L.) hybrids along with four standard checks (Annnada, PSD-2, Govind & JR 201). This material was received from the Directorate of Rice Research, Hyderabad. Hence, heterosis over the best commercial variety “Govind” has been considered for the estimation of standard heterosis for thirty three characters for all the nineteen indica rice hybrids. The findings of present investigation clearly indicate that hybrids viz., UPHR-2248, UPRJGH-332, JRH-2, JRH-3, & HRI-152 are not only yield superior but also have better quality attributes, hence considered to be ideal for popularization.
Key words :
