ABSTRACT
Heterosis of seed yield and its attributing traits in greengram (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) has created an interest among plant breeders to develop high yielding mungbean cultivars. The objective of this study the nature and magnitude of heterosis over better parent and standard check HUM-16 for 11 yield and its related traits. To achieve this goal, eight lines and four testers were crossed in L x T mating design. None of the cross combination was found with desirable heterosis for all the traits. The extent of heterosis varied from cross to cross and trait to trait. Both positive and negative heterosis was recorded for all the traits under study. Most of the crosses found earlier than their better parents and ckeck, indicating the poosibility to develop the early maturing genotypes. A total of 14 and 16 crosses exhibited strong positive heterosis for seed yield over both better parents and standard check. These crosses may throw good segregants in early segregating generations.
