ABSTRACT
An attempt has been made in this paper to study the direction of trade and changes in the export of poultry products. The annual time series data on quantity of poultry products, which are exported to various countries were collected for the period of 22 years from 1987-88 to 2009-10. The collected data were analysed using Markov chain analysis and compound growth rate analysis. The results showed that the annual compound growth rate for quantity which is exported to various countries was 5.30 per cent. It showed that there was a positive and significant growth in quantity of export of poultry
products. Afghanistan is one of the stable major importers of Indian poultry products as reflected in probability of retention at 0.83 i.e., the probability that Afghanistan retained its export share from one period to another period was about 83 per cent. New export promotion strategies have to be evolved to diversify the export of poultry products to all the countries and to avoid over dependence on only two countries i.e., Afghanistan and Kuwait.
Key words :
Export performance, growth rate, Markov chain analysis, poultry products.
