ABSTRACT
The present study was based on case study method of social research. The study was undertaken purposively in Buldana district of western Vidarbha region of Maharashtra state, as this is one of the suicide hit districts of western Vidarbha since from last seven years. The results revealed that repeated crop failures/ low yield due to monsoon vagaries, inability to repay the borrowed debt to bank and moneylender, non-sustainable livelihood, inability to fulfill the family responsibilities, all these things have created social humiliation, depression, distress, and finally to commit suicide by the selected deceased farmers. For improving this situation policy makers have to thinks about sustaining the livelihood of farming community in distress prone districts of Vidarbha.
