ABSTRACT
The field trials were conducted during 2007- 2009 at Subramaniya Siva Co-operative Sugar Mill to evaluate the efficacy of three different doses of the biopesticide, Metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch.) Sorakin for the control of sugarcane white grub, Holotrichia serrata Fab. All the three doses mixed with 50 kg of well decomposed farm yard manure and applied near the root zone of the crop and irrigated immediately after application. All the three treatments were effective in controlling the sugarcane white grub compared to control. The results of the field trial indicated that the third treatment 8x10 9 conidia per ml found to be most effective in controlling the population of white grub compared to other treatments . The yield and quality parameters recoreded were higher in treated plots compared to control plots. The results of the field trial indicated the efficacy of this biopesticide, M. anisopliae for the control of white grubs.This is the first time report in India about the bioefficacy of the biopesticide M.anisopliae at field level for the control of sugarcane white grub (H. serrata) effectively.
