ABSTRACT
A field investigation was conducted to evaluate the potential of Bacillus subtilis 1% WP (cfu 2 x 108 g-1) for managing root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid and White) Chitwood race 2 in okra, Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench during 2012 and 2013 at Central Research Farm of B.C. Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Nadia, West Bengal. The bio-pesticide, B. subtilis 1% WP @ 20g kg-1 of seed + 5 kg ha-1 along with 2.5 t of FYM performed well to suppress M. incognita population (40.8%) and to produce more fruit yield of okra compared to untreated check. The treatment also showed its superiority over treated check, carbofuran 3G @ 1 kg a.i. ha-1. Paecilomyces lilacinus 1% WP (cfu 2 x 106 g-1) and B. subtilis 1% WP each @ 20g kg-1 of seed + 2.5 kg ha-1 along with 2.5 t of FYM exhibited 36.6% and 33.7% reduction of soil and root population of M. incognita, respectively over control. A significant negative correlation between root-knot nematode population and fruit yield or fresh shoot biomass yield of okra was observed.
