ABSTRACT
Groundnut planter is an animal drawn implement suitable for sowing groundnut, cotton, maize, sorghum and Bengal gram. It consists of separate hoppers for seed and fertilizer. Inclined plate type metering mechanism is used for seeds and hence able to maintain plant to pant spacing. Agitator type metering mechanism is used for fertilizers .The drive to metering mechanism is through ground wheel and chain and sprocket mechanism. It can accommodate three shoe type furrow openers and row to row spacing can be adjusted as per the need of the crop. The average effective field capacity was found to be 0.273 ha/hr at a speed of 2.42 km/hr.Field efficiency is about 83.45 %.It saves 85 % labour,59 % operating time and 53-68 % cost of operation compared to conventional method of sowing behind the country plough. Use of this machine also results in 20 % increase in yield.
