ABSTRACT
In India manual or HTP sprayers are used for spraying horticultural crops which results in uneven spraying, incurring more cost and inefficient pest control. To overcome these limitations a suitable alternative is development of aero blast sprayer operated by 18 hp tractor. Based on tree parameters air and spray volume requirement for HDP mango orchard spraying was calculated. The centrifugal blower with forward curved blade was designed to deliver the air of 2.5 m3/s for 18 hp tractor. Based on laboratory test the best blower speed of 2200 rpm was selected to study the droplet spectrum analysis and considering effect of sprayer discharge, speed of travel on VMD, NMD, UC and DD the best performance was found at 3.3 lit/min sprayer discharge, speed of travel 2.5 km/h.
For field test blower speed 2200 rpm, 3.3 lit/min sprayer discharge and speed of travel 2.5 Km/h was selected. The higher size VMD droplets were found at middle position of tree and smaller ones at top position of tree. The higher size NMD droplets were found at bottom position of tree and smaller ones at top position of tree. The effective field capacity 1 ha/h, field efficiency 80%, fuel consumption 3.33 lit/h and one labour requirement. The spray application rate 180 lit/ha and cost of spraying operation with developed aero blast sprayer was found 465.00 Rs./ha.
