ABSTRACT
Three species of Trichoderma, Verticillium lecanii, and two bacterial bio-agents viz., Pseudomonas fluorescens and Bacillus subtilis were evaluated for their antagonistic activity against Pythium aphanidermatum causal agent of damping-off in bidi tobacco by two different methods in in vitro. The result revealed that all the bio-agents have significantly reduced the mycelial growth of the pathogen except Verticillium lecanii. Bacterial bio-agents viz., Pseudomonas fluorescens and Bacillus subtilis were more effective in inhibiting the growth of P. aphanidermatum then Trichoderma spp. Fungal antagonists T. harzianum exhibited 67.98 % per cent inhibition of mycelial growth, while T. virens (14.73%) and T. viride (11.70%) showed poor antagonism by dual culture technique.
