ABSTRACT
The experimental material in upland rice (Oryza sativa L.) consisted of six generations (P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2) obtained from six crosses using six parents to study the magnitude of gene action in the crosses for grain yield and it's contributing traits deploying generation mean analysis using six parameter model. The individual scaling tests was significant with all the families for all the characters under study indicating inadequacy of additive dominance model and possibility for the presence of interallelic gene interaction except in productive tillers per plant in cross-II (Purna X IR-28), panicle length in cross-II (Purna X IR-28), grain yield per plant in cross-III (Purna X GNR-6) and harvest index % in cross-V (GR-5 X GR-7) and cross-VI (GR-7 x Purna). The present study demonstrates the importance of additive, dominance and epistatic gene effects for the inheritance of almost all the yield and its component traits.
