ABSTRACT
Forty genotypes of sunflower were grown in a randomized block design for genetic analysis for physiological parameters in sunflower during the summer season 2011, at Research Farm of Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, N. M. College of Agriculture, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari. Analysis of variance revealed significant genotypic differences for all the traits except vacant inner diameter indicating wide range of variation was apparent in the experimental material. The genotypic coefficient of variance was observed higher for the characters leaf area at flowering, seed yield per plant, number of filled seeds per capitula, number of leaves per plant and stem diameter indicating that phenotypic selection would be effective for genetic improvement in the traits like, seed yield per plant, number of filled seeds per capitula and head diameter. seed yield per plant showed highly significant and positive correlation with head diameter, number of seeds per capitula, number of filled seeds per capitula at both genotypic and phenotypic levels. These seed yield per plant also possessed positive association with stem diameter, number of leaves per plant, leaf area at flowering, plant height and vacant inner diameter. Path analysis indicated that number of leaves per plant had highest positive direct effect on seed yield per plant. DRSF-113, GMU-1033, GMU-588 and DRSF-108 found promising genotypes in south Gujarat condition as they recorded higher seed yielder and good quality of physiological parameters.
