ABSTRACT
Studies on genetic variability, correlation and path coefficient analysis in linseed was carried out at Research Farm, Rajoula, Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwa Vidyalaya, Chitrakoot, Satna (Madhya Pradesh) during rabi season of 2008-09 by adopting Randomized Block Design with three replications. The study revealed that wide range of variability for all the characters viz., plant high (cm), number of primary and secondary branches plant-1, number of capsules plant-1, number of seeds capsule-1, days to maturity, 1000-seed weight (g), seed yield plant-1 (g) and oil content (%). High phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation were observed for number of capsules plant-1 followed by seed yield plant-1 and 1000-seed weight. The high heritability along with high genetic advance as per cent of mean was observed for number of capsules plant-1, seed yield plant-1, 1000-seed weight, plant height and secondary branches plant-1. The association and path coefficient analysis revealed that 1000-seed weight and oil content were the important characters. Therefore, this study suggested that linseed improvement programme could be based on these characters as selection criteria.
