ABSTRACT
A study on genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance and inter association between fifteen traits in one hundred and thirty genotypes was carried out at Jabalpur during 2007 and 2008. The range of variation was maximum for plant height, leaf area, number of spikes per plant, number of seeds per plant, husk percent, number of seed per spike, seed yield per plant. The genotypic coefficient of variation and phenotypic coefficient of variation were high for number of leaves per plant, leaf area, number of effective branch per plant and remaining characters exhibited medium to low genetic coefficient of variation. Heritability in broad sense was recorded highest for number of spikelets per spike and number of seed per spike, number of seeds per plant, spike length, 1000-seed weight, seed yield per plant and husk percent. Seed yield was positively association with plant height, number of effective branches per plant, number of spikes per plant, spike length, number of spikelets per spike, number of seeds per spike, number of seeds per plant, 1000-seed weigh and crop biomass and harvest index while number of seeds per plant, 1000-seed weight, number of seeds per spike, number of spikelets per spike, spike length and number of spikes per plant also had positive direct effect on seed yield per plant.
