ABSTRACT
Genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance and genetic advance as a per cent over mean for twenty two characters were assessed by field evaluation of sixteen chilli genotypes at Regional Horticultural Research and Extension Centre (RHREC), Kumbapur, Dharwad, University of Horticultural Sciences (UHS), Bagalkote during kharif season 2020-2021. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. High degree of variation was observed for all characters. The difference between phenotypic coefficient of variation and genotypic coefficient were found to be narrow for most of the traits. The high estimates of heritability was found for chlorophyll content (99.96 %), capsaicin content (99.93%), fruit yield per hectare (99.82%), fruit yield per plot (99.72%), fruit yield per plant (99.67%), fruit weight (99.63%), average fruit weight (99.45%), number of fruits per plant (99.40%) and number of tertiary branches per plant at 60 DAT (99.37%).
