ABSTRACT
Genetic parameters, correlation and path analysis for eleven yield and yield attributes were studied during rabi in 75 farmers' varieties of rice. Highest estimates of PCV and GCV were recorded for number of filled grains per panicle followed by number of productive tillers per plant, grain yield per plant and total number of tillers per plant. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percent of mean was observed for time of heading, stem length, total number of tillers per plant, number of productive tillers per plant, panicle length, number of filled grains per panicle, 1000 grain weight, grain yield per plant and L/B ratio. Grain yield per plant had significant positive association with number of filled grains per panicle (0.4881**/0.4845**), 1000-grain weight (0.2645**/0.3138**), number of productive tillers per plant (0.2070**/0.2237**), decorticated grain length (0.1801*/0.1855*), total number of tillers per plant (0.1789**/0.2076**) and time of heading (0.1461*/0.1572*) both at phenotypic and genotypic levels, respectively. The traits like L/B ratio, numbers of productive tillers per plant, number of filled grains per panicle, decorticated grain width, 1000 grain weight and stem length had direct effect on grain yield per plant both at phenotypic and genotypic levels. The results suggest that the number of filled grains per panicles is important yield contributing trait and selection based on this trait would be most effective.
