ABSTRACT
Estimates of genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance, correlation and path co-efficient have been computed for eight biochemical traits in 60 F3 progenies of pearl millet. The genotypic and phenotypic variability was high for total soluble sugar content, free amino acid content and lysine (g) per 100 g protein. High estimates of heritability coupled with high genetic advance as recorded for total soluble sugar content and lysine (g) per 100 g protein. The analysis of inter-relationship showed that the grain yield possessed a high and positive association with total soluble sugar content. Grain yield was negatively correlated with protein content and free amino acid content. Path coefficient analysis revealed that total soluble sugar content had both direct and indirect effects to the account for yield. The character protein contents showed high positive direct effect but had high negative indirect effects via free amino acid content and lysine (g) per 100 g protein.
