ABSTRACT
An investigation was carried out with the twenty five rice genotypes to study the nature and magnitude of genetic variability among them. The results showed high GCV and PCV were recorded for flag leaf area (23.19, 15.83) ; ( 23.81, 17.84), maximum root length (15.52, 20.53) ; (20.01, 22.01), peroxidise activity in leaves (24.29, 17.65) ;( 24.49, 17.70) and grain yield per plot (31.94, 15.77) ; (36.22, 20.50). Under aerobic and normal conditions high GCV and PCV were recorded for proline accumulation in leaves (9.13, 8.89);( 10.31, 10.16). High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as % of mean exhibited by traits like 1000 grain weight (80%, 80%) ; (20.66, 21.66), relative water content (93%,98%); (18.97, 23.29), maximum root length (67%,79%) ; (26.12, 35.70), flag leaf area (95%,79%); (46.51, 28.92), peroxidise activity in leaves (98%,99%); (49.64, 36.26) under normal and aerobic condition respectively.
