ABSTRACT
The germinated paddy was utilized as a bait carrier for zinc phosphide (2%) and bromadiolone (0.005%) and the same was evaluated in three crop fields viz., black gram, sunflower and cotton in order to know their efficacy in bringing down the population of rodents and their depredation to crops at pre-harvest stages. The results indicated in general the chosen rodenticides significantly reduced both population of rodent pests and their damage in the selected three crop fields. Further, the cost-benefit ratio computed for these two rodenticides suggested that the zinc phosphide is considered as an economic and effective rodenticide when compared to bromadiolone. Therefore, the utilization of zinc phosphide at 2% concentration with germinated paddy as a bait carrier may be recommended to the farming community for adoption in their black gram, sunflower & cotton crop fields.
