ABSTRACT
This study has been undertaken with objectives to examine growth and variability in area, production and productivity of chickpea, seasonal variation and relationship between market arrivals and prices of chickpea in Marathwada region of Maharashtra State. Time series data for the period 1985-86 to 2004-05 regarding area, production and productivity collected from Epitoma of Agriculture, published by Government of Maharashtra. The data regarding arrivals and prices collected from four markets viz., Parbhani, Manvat, Hingoli and Akhadabalapur for same period. Compound growth rate, coefficient of variation, ratio to moving average method and double log model were used for achieving the objectives. The results revealed that among the districts Nanded recorded highest growth in area and production of chickpea, while all districts and region recorded higher variability in area, production and productivity of chickpea. The highest arrivals of chickpea found in month of March in Hingoli and Akhadabalapur markets, while significant negative relationship between arrivals and prices of chickpea observed in Hingoli market.
