ABSTRACT
Field experiment was conducted to study the bio-efficacy of combination of herbicides against weed complex and their effect on growth and yield of dry direct-seeded rice and to study the phytotoxic effects on the crop, if any in TBP (Tunga Bhadra Project) Command area of Karnataka at Agricultural Research Station, Gangavathi, University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur, Karnataka during kharif, 2015 under irrigated condition in clay soil. At 60 DAS, among the different weed management practices, hand weeding thrice at 20, 40 and 60 DAS recorded lower total density (3.97 No /m2), dry weight (3.19 g/m2), higher total dry matter production (80.43g/plant ), number of tillers (416.67/m2), number of panicles (194.33/m2), grain yield (4.25t/ha), straw yield (5.31t/ha) compared to all other treatments. Within the different herbicide combinations, application of pyrazosulfuron ethyl 20 g ai/ha at 3 DAS fb bispyribac-sodium 10 SC 25 g ai/ha at 25 DAS noticed lower total density (5.12 No /m2), dry weight (3.97g/m2), higher total dry matter production (74.57 g/plant), number of tillers (360.33/m2), number of panicles (178.33/m2), grain yield (4.04t/ha), straw yield (5.05 t/ha), lower depletion of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium by the weeds (4.40, 1.48 and 3.33 kg ha-1), higher gross returns (Rs. 63240) and B:C (2.07) compared to all other treatment without any hand weeding. Significantly, the lowest total dry matter production (50.73 g/plant), number of tillers (205/m2), number of panicles (101.67/m2) grain yield (2.25 t/ha), straw yield (2.81 t/ha) and the highest weed index (47.51) were noticed with weedy check owing to severe weed competition throughout the crop growth period.
