ABSTRACT
Pigeonpea is the often cross pollinated species with availability of male sterlity and became amenable for heterosis breeding. The present investigation was carried out to calculate the percent standard heterosis for twenty parents (three females and seventeen male parents) and fifty one hybrids which were grown in the randomized block design with two replications following line x tester analysis at VNMKV, Parbhani (MS) during kharif 2012. Predominance of non-additive gene effencts was found for all the characters. The crosses viz.,ICPA-2043 x BDN-2010, ICPA-2043 x ICP-8858, ICPA-2092 x BWR-24, ICPA-2043 x BWR-87 and ICPA-2092 x BWR-134 were found to be best hetrerotic combinations which may use in further hybridization programmes. The mean performance for plant and pollen fertility also observed for parents and hybrids which is useful in pod setting. Significant and positive correlation of seed yield per plant found with number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod & no. of secondary branches per plant and number of pods per plant excerterd the highest positive direct effect on seed yield per plant.
