ABSTRACT
An experiment consisting of fifteen hybrids with standard check MSFH-8 was conducted at experimental farm, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani using Randomized Block Design with two replications. Data were recorded on yield and yield components. Data were analyzed means were separated through least significant difference test. Significant genetic differences were observed among hybrids for plant height, days to 50 % flowering, days to maturity, head diameter, developed seed, hundred seed weight, oil content and yield per plant. High level of heterosis were observed in 234A x MRHA-2, 7-1-A x MRHA-2, 234A x RHA-271 for head diameter, 100 seed weight, and yield per plant. Negative significant heterosis were recorded for early flowering and maturity in hybrid 290A x ZC(B) and for plant height in hybrid 290A x MRHA-2. The hybrid WG-5A x MRHA-2 observed positive heterosis for oil content. Based on the mean performance and high heterotic effects for important characters. These hybrids and their parents are suggested for further study and use in sunflower breeding programme.
