ABSTRACT
The study on magnitude of heterosis of yield and component traits was carried out in 57 F1 hybrids derived by crossing 19 lines with three testers of bitter gourd. Maximum standard heterosis for vine length at 45 and 90 (DAS) days after sowing (56.35% and 16.92%) was observed in BGA-7 × AH and BGA-15 × AH, for number of branches at 90 DAS BGA-9 × PV (63.41%) , for days to first male flowering BGA-10 × COGL (-9.76%), for sex ratio BGA-13 × PV (-7.67%), for fruit girth BGA-8 × COGL (59.48%), for number of fruits per vine BGA-9 × PV (30.34%), for fruit yield per vine BGA-15 × PV (0.81%), for fruit yield per plot BGA-15 × PV (29.84%), for ascorbic acid (BGA-2 × COGL and BGA-3 × AH) 15.26%.
