ABSTRACT
The entire North Eastern Region is at the low level of economic development although it has a tremendous potential to develop. The net income from crop component was ` 14,150 and that of from pig was ` 6,200, thereby, giving a total net income of ` 20,950 in a single year from a piece of 0.48 ha land area. Each farmer has gained a net income of ` 4,575 from an area of 500 m2 from their produce (kitchen garden). Rearing backyard poultry is supporting livelihood of the participants by providing of eggs, meat and manure. It has increased income by 338.71% and employment by 20%. Therefore, the demands of chicks are too high. There are 87 beneficiaries who have earned more than ` 7000 a year from goat rearing. The farmers were financially supported (@ `10,000/- per house per farmer) for making improved type pig shelters (brick- cement made) for better management of pigs. The income of beneficiaries before and after NAIP was worked out to be ` 3748.335 per month before NAIP and about ` 4618.665 per month after NAIP. It was observed that there was around 27.43 per cent increase in the income after adopting technologies from NAIP than before Adopting NAIP indicating that income has increased reasonably after participation in the scheme. It was found out that the overall consumption expenditure on food items of the beneficiaries after NAIP increased by 5.2 per cent than before NAIP.
