ABSTRACT
The present study was conducted in United Andhra Pradesh with the objective to find out the impact of Integrated crop management Farmers' Field Schools on environment. A total of three districts were selected purposively from three regions of United Andhra Pradesh. Respondents were selected through simple random sampling procedure. The total sample size was 240 comprising 120 Farmers' Field Schools (FFS) farmers and 120 non-FFS farmers. The Double Difference method was used by comparing change in performance before and after the programme for FFS farmers to the change in performance over the same period for non-FFS farmers unaffected by the programme. Since paddy is the major crop in United Andhra Pradesh, it was taken for conducting the study. The present study has revealed a high level of hazardous chemicals widely used by both the FFS and non-FFS farmers during Pre-FFS period. Farmers who were trained under FFS had understood the impact of hazardous chemicals. As an impact of the training, during post FFS period, FFS farmers used slightly hazardous to moderately hazardous chemicals whereas, due to lack of knowledge, farmers who were not trained under FFS had continued to use highly hazardous chemicals. FFS has helped the farmers to switch over to relatively less hazardous chemical pesticides.

The study further revealed that FFS had helped the farmers in learning and practising the safety measures while applying chemical pesticides like proper direction of spray, use of protective covering etc. there were lesser rate of poisoning cases among FFS farmers due to safe use of pesticides such as burning nose, difficulty in breathing, headache, blurred vision. Thus, it was concluded that FFS has positive impact in proper use of pesticides which has greater environmental and human health impacts.
