ABSTRACT
The future of Indian agriculture depends heavily on the development of appropriate farming system as suitable to resource poor families and to different agro-climatic zones. In this regard University of Horticulture Sciences initiated Integrated Farming System (IFS) Project with the financial assistant of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana covering 10,000 farmers all over the state. So, in order to assess its impact on beneficiary farmers this study was undertaken at Koppal District of Karnataka state. The data was collected with the help of structured interview schedule before and after implementation of the project. It was found that there was positive shift with respect to income level and before implementation of IFS project 4.4 per cent of the respondents belonged to low income group and after implementation of IFS project it was reduced to 1.60 per cent. In case of semi-medium income group it was decreased from 19.20 per cent before to 3.60 per cent after implementation of IFS programme. Whereas, in case of medium income group it was increased from 19.60 to 28.80 per cent after implementation of IFS programme, whereas in case of high income group there was increase from 56.80 per cent before to 66.00 per cent after implementation of IFS project. It is clearly indicated that IFS project intervention has positive effect on income status of beneficiary farmers. With respect adoption of different components of IFS majority (62.14%) of the respondents were adopted Agri-Horti-forestry-Animal Husbandary-vermi-compost. With respect to employment generation majority (95.20%) of the beneficiaries expressed IFS project has increased the employment opportunities to the rural people and about 94.40 per cent of the beneficiaries indicated Integrated Farming System can provide returns on regular basis. Whereas, 94.00 per cent of the beneficiaries expressed their opinion that local resources can be effectively utilized in IFS and it gives economic security.
