ABSTRACT
A field experiment was carried out at 'C' block Farm under Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalya, West Bengal during kharif season of 2011 and 2012.The experiment showed that variety, method of cultivation and their interaction had significant effect on growth and yield components whereas method of cultivation and interaction exerted significant difference in dry matter accumulation; panicle length varied among method of cultivation and interaction. The SRI method produced 58.58% and 29.18% higher average grain and straw yield of rice over traditional transplanting respectively. Rice variety ‘Badsabhog’ showed significantly higher grain yield over other varieties. Seed qualities as well as N uptake was superior in SRI as compared to traditional method; variety and interaction gave significant effect on seed quality where interaction influence significant difference in germination rate and shoot length. Quality varied significantly among varieties with respect to protein content, hulling, milling, and head rice recovery. SRI method was found better over traditional method in respect of grain quality attributes of rice.
