ABSTRACT
A field study was conducted during rabi 2008-09 at Main Research Station College of Agriculture, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad to study the influence of hydrophilic polymer on growth parameters, irrigation frequency and yield in tomato. The treatments consisted of different concentrations of HP (Luquasorb, 0.50 to 1.75 g/plant) and control which were imposed at the time of transplanting of seedlings. Results revealed that the application of HP(1.75 g/plant) into the soil increased plant height (98.4 cm), leaf area (70.43 dm2), total dry weight per plant (147.37 g), and yield (36.6 t/ha) as compared to all other treatments. The application of hydrophilic polymer reduced the irrigation frequency of crop as recorded in treatments T4, T5 and T6 to the extent of 33 per cent less than that of control (T7)and relative water content also more maximum in T6 (90.2%) compared all other treatments.
