ABSTRACT
Field experiment was conducted in RIOF, GKVK, UAS, Bengaluru during 2014-2015, to investigate the Influence of panchagavya on vegetable seed production of cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp] genotypes. The genotypes i.e., PKB-4, PKB-6 and AV-5 were studied under both field as well as lab conditions. The results revealed that among the genotypes, PKB-4 recoded highest growth parameters at 60 DAS like plant height (75.61 cm), number of branches (5.46), number of effective nodules (4.52) and AV-5 registered highest seed yield and quality parameters like number of pods per plant (13.05), pod yield per plant (16.00 g), seed yield per plant(14.74), seed yield per plot(1.22 kg) and significantly higher seed quality attributes viz., test weight (117.04 g), germination (83.39 %), mean seedling length (32.60 cm), mean seedling dry weight (58.28 mg), total dehydrogenase activity (2.90 A480nm), protein content (17.90 %) and lower seed infection (22.92 %) respectively, compared to other genotypes. Among the panchagavya sprayings, at 5 % concentration recorded highest growth, yield and quality parameters like plant height ( 85.94 cm), number of branches (6.47), number of effective nodules (5.47) and seed yield parameters like number of pods per plant (13.22), pod yield per plant (16.28 g), seed yield per plant(14.80 g), seed yield per plot(1.27 kg) and seed quality attributes viz., test weight (120.53 g), germination (88.88 %), mean seedling length (37.35 cm), mean seedling dry weight (65.63 mg), total dehydrogenase activity (3.81 A480nm), protein content (20.52%) and lower seed infection (10.89 %) respectively, compared to other concentrations. Therefore, combination of genotype AV-5 with panchagavya spraying at 5 % concentration found to be best treatment compared to others.
